#realweddingwednesday: Zeenat and Ismail

Wednesday, October 11, 2017
Originally from the Uk, Zeenat met Ismail through friends and 'the rest is history'. Their wedding date was set for April 2017, giving eight months to plan. Save the date pencils were sent out to guests in the UK, Canada, Australia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho and Pakistan.......

Zeenat explained that Indian weddings tend to be spread over a few days with lots of singing, dancing and plenty of food and theirs was no different.

The official start of the wedding kicked off on the Wednesday before the reception with a mehndi or henna ceremony as well as an official engagement and exchanging of gifts between the two families. The religious ceremony, or nikah, was conducted at their local mosque on the Friday. The following day was their reception, which held in the evening. Mohammed Rawoot of M Couture designed her dress and was there to dress Zeenat.

Zeenat wanted a magical garden theme for the reception, with plenty of whites, greens and gold for décor and lots of fresh flowers and candles all produced by the team at Rosy’s Decor.

The venue, a recently revamped community centre is owned by the reputable Elegante Caterers, (who provided the three-course meal on the night) and the white washed walls, and lightly coloured tiled floor really lent itself well to the overall décor.

Zeenat made a doughnut wall herself which she placed in the foyer to welcome her gusts. She found the peg boards on sale at Typo and decorated the edges with flowers from China Town. The doughnuts were actually mini cakes, baked in the shape of a doughnut and were made by the talented Fatima Abdurrahman of DelicatSA.

Another standout feature was the wedding cake that was designed by HundredsnThousands in Cape Town. The outside of the cake was elegantly decorated in cream and hold icing, while the opposite side had the British and South African flag to represent where we both come from.

Although over five hours long, the reception went by very quickly, with speeches from our uncles, cousins and my grandfather as the MC.
